Team Previews
Borussia Dortmund are set to continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Erzgebirge Aue at the Erzgebirge Stadium in Aue-Bad Schlema on Wednesday. This marks Dortmund's second friendly following a convincing 7-1 victory over a local amateur and influencer team, where standout performances from Felix Nmecha and Youssoufa Moukoko, each scoring twice, highlighted Nuri Sahin's debut as head coach, succeeding Edin Terzic.
Sahin, formerly with Turkish club Antalyaspor, expressed enthusiasm about coaching Dortmund, emphasizing an attacking style and nurturing young talent. Despite finishing fifth in the Bundesliga last season, Dortmund secured a Champions League spot due to Germany's strong UEFA coefficient.
Erzgebirge Aue, in contrast, are gearing up for their fourth pre-season fixture. Results have been mixed with a notable 4-0 loss to ZFC Meuselwitz followed by wins against Glenavon (5-0) and Plauen (4-0). Manager Pavel Dochev is intensifying training as they prepare for a third consecutive season in the 3. Liga, having finished sixth last season, narrowly missing out on the promotion playoffs.
After Dortmund, Erzgebirge Aue will face Carl Zeiss Jena in their final friendly before opening their league campaign against Hannover 96 II on August 3. Dortmund's pre-season will continue with matches in Japan against Pathum United and Cerezo Osaka, led by Shinji Kagawa, followed by games against Villarreal and Aston Villa. Their competitive season begins with a DFB-Pokal first-round clash against Phonix Lubeck on August 17.
